research practices

I chose to use the 'abstract print'from our previous project to continue into this brief with the intention of creating my own prints, however due to it being a busy time of year for deadlines I have found the facilities available to use have been very restricted.
After various experimentation with printing/ stamps/ spray painting and dye I have decided to create my own prints using brusho dyes and bleach.
The vivid colours are inspired by Christopher Kanes S/S 2011 collection.
Originally I wished to create a sophisticated clean look by keeping the colour pallet basic with one splash of bright colour, however I have no changed my target market to appeal towards young jetsetters, travellers and backpackers.
Here are some images of the fabrics I created for my final piece.

research practices - design

Today I went to Fabworks in Dewsbury for the first time. It was amazing.
I have now sourced the faux-leathers to make my final piece which will be a bag that extends and retracts depending on the amount of contents within.
I've already made a toile and it works pretty well, just needs some tweaking and final decisions on the detailing and finish and I'll be reet.
I feel on top of this work so far, and I really hope I can improve my grade and end the year on a high.

ENTERPRISE

These records were a bad idea, I have come to a dead end with them.
The lazer cutting for one piece took 45 minutes and you only get 1 hour slots!
I wish I had more time so I could make different things, embellish and customise anything, that would have been way more fun.
Something like this would have been awesome and something I would have liked to continue doing.

so simple and yet so cute, if I had a blackberry I would 100% get these.

PPD2 -

I have applied for so many work placements that I'm so stuck and beginning to feel dishartened :/
I don't even know what I want to do as a fashion career so I'm finding it hard to pin point a specific area in which to apply :(

research practices

I'm quite excited to work on my own again after the last project and to further practice designing for an accessory rather than a fashion garment.
I have chosen to research into Surrealism and Abstract Print and will combine the two ideas to create something which depicts both emotion (Dali and Man Ray) and structure (Mondrian and Kandinsky).

I'd like to create something which embodies these kind of romantic textures..

Fused together with a print for a distressed look which conveys emotions be they happy and bright or dark and moody.

I am hoping to combine these textures with a framework influenced by bondage and concertina details.

Exhibition Review at Leeds Art Gallery

chosen room - Room 15 - the collaberation of the collections 1950's L.A.G 'painting' and 1949's 'Head VI'.
This exhibition is centred around Francis Bacon and artists he knew, worked with and was influenced by. The theme intends to expose the tension between the interior space of the body and space of location.
Paintings range from cubist, realist and abstract influence and were painted between the late 1800's to the late 1900's.
My favourite artist of the exhibition was Robert Macbryde due to his bold colours and precise yet fluid lines chosen to depict his muse.
I also found Paula Rego's 'artist in her studio' (1993) interesting as I was a little disturbed by the sinister references within the painting combined with the beautiful and almost cheerful colours.

Application of design

drawing up all my designs for shoesies. have done 21 pages worth of designs already, my aim being 30.
....this is before I've even finalised my lineup. might be getting a little carried away, must remember to keep it simple, just take ELEMENTS from my research.
BUT HOW COOL WOULD IT BE TO WEAR THESE SHOES?!
