all that glitters is

GOLD:
The bit hit for fall 2011 apparenly, and who else could think of a more luxurious way of enhancing those dull and dreary autumn tones than Vivienne Westwood.
Her ready-to-wear collection combines staple tones such as khakis, greys and camels with a 'gold-leaf' foiling effect. Personally I love the gold pants she created as there's something a little 'biker-chic' about this distressed look.

Westwood not only used this foiling technique to encorporate the gold trend but went with the much bolder use of chunky sequins which gave a slightly more rock and roll edge to some of her more traditional and sophisticated silhouettes.

Another designer also rocking the sequin trend was Gareth Pugh. Pugh's ready-to-wear fall collection took the beauty and elegance of a traditional Ninja silhouette and combined it with dark, religious and Matrix-esque materials.

The overall look was striking and intimidating, but with the help of Pugh's renound tailoring the finish was clean and beautiful.
It is with this combination of craftmanship and an eye for dramatic style that Pugh is able to use what would normally be seen as otherwise, tacky and cheap looking materials and make them strong, powerful and glamourous.
