all that glitters is

GOLD:
The bit hit for fall 2011 apparenly, and who else could think of a more luxurious way of enhancing those dull and dreary autumn tones than Vivienne Westwood.
Her ready-to-wear collection combines staple tones such as khakis, greys and camels with a 'gold-leaf' foiling effect. Personally I love the gold pants she created as there's something a little 'biker-chic' about this distressed look.

Westwood not only used this foiling technique to encorporate the gold trend but went with the much bolder use of chunky sequins which gave a slightly more rock and roll edge to some of her more traditional and sophisticated silhouettes.

Another designer also rocking the sequin trend was Gareth Pugh. Pugh's ready-to-wear fall collection took the beauty and elegance of a traditional Ninja silhouette and combined it with dark, religious and Matrix-esque materials.

The overall look was striking and intimidating, but with the help of Pugh's renound tailoring the finish was clean and beautiful.
It is with this combination of craftmanship and an eye for dramatic style that Pugh is able to use what would normally be seen as otherwise, tacky and cheap looking materials and make them strong, powerful and glamourous.

Application of design

I have been put into a group for the 'application of design' module and am quite excited about our work.
Our task was to come up with a concept and a company, ours was 'ANNEX' a company based around the idea of buying a canvas product and being able to purchase embellishments/add ons to change the look of the product.
We have each been given a product to design for the company and I have been given shoes.
I have found researching this so much fun especially when we decided that 'sealife - jellyfish inparticular' would be our starting point.
I have had the chance to practise my drawing skills of the feet and legs, an area I have always found difficult and feel that my ideas for the final lineup are a credit to my research skills.

ENTERPRISE

After experimenting with the vinyl idea I spoke to my subject leader and she suggested that the jewellery idea had the most potential so I went with that.
I did a few designs for pieces after doing some research and decided that a bow or butterfly would be easiest to cut once I had got more vinyls.

I also had a laser cutting induction so I have been able to do a practise run so was able to experiment further. The intention was to cut out a beautiful shape and then melt the vinyl at home to form a bracelet, but it turned out my butterfly image was too delicate and bits either fell off or didn't cut right.

I also had the idea to cut something like this, as after looking at the trends, I have found these to be very popular.

However after some consideration I have decided my designs need to be adjusted and that perhaps looking at future trends for summer would be a helpful and could perhaps provide me with a better opportunity to make more more money.

PP2 - internship ideas

I've finally finished my CV and drafted a cover letter block to tailor depending on where I apply.
My only problem is is that I don't know what I want to do when I'm older yet so finding a specific field in which I'd like experience is proving difficult.
I've managed to narrow it down to fashion magazine work, contour fashion, fashion accessories that kind of thing.
Ideally I'd love to work with somewhere like Argent Provocateur or Louboutin, but a girl can only dream.
I'm aiming to have sent off applications for atleast 1/2 the placements I have listed in my diary by the beginning of next week.

PPD 2 - CV designs

Today I took in my CV design for Paul with the really bad silhouette outline I drew on it and I can't say it went down very well.
So after looking through all possible imagery I decided to use some imagery from the line up in my latest project. I chose three designs and added a few filters to them on Photoshop.
I liked the first design as the filter made my imagery look stitched and delicate.
HOWEVER this isn't really my style and mabye looked a little too delicate for my Loud Crazy taste.

So after further experimentation I came up with this :)!
I love the colours and the font, I love everything about it, and it feels personal and true to my taste.
Here's an example of my Postcard:

and this is how the image would translate to a CV:

Just need to come up with a less 'in-your-face' way of including this in a covering letter and I've got my own brand identity.

ENTERPRISE 24/01/11

so I've changed my idea for enterprise. I was going to recycle old band tshirts and make them into cushions/ bags and fix my price depending on the size of the shirt (XS/S/M/L/XL). However this idea wasn't exactly exciting and I felt no enthusiasm towards my idea.
After browsing through a load of craft sites I have now decided to continue with the musical idea but recycle old vinyls.
I got a few from a record shop for 49p and there were even some that were 25p and have began experimenting with things I could create, I personally like the bowl idea as it is simple and would be lovely to keep jewellery in.
I may invest in some spray paint or sequins to add a little extra sparkle :)
ORRRRRR I could create a pattern stencil and spray paint onto the flat dick before I melt it.
